Linus Torvalds, Why is he so great?

I'll be honest, I've heard of the Linux but never have I looked into than man behind the OS itself. Turns out he's a pretty big deal. He started developing what would become the Linux OS while he was in college for Computer Science. He graduated with a Masters degree in Computer Science from the University of Helsinki. Torvalds was quite knowledgeable in the subject even before he got to college, which gave him a great boost. He's been a programmer since the mid 1970s, self taught, so he's been at it for a whole decade before he even had any structured teaching in the area.

The Linux itself is an Operating System(OS) which Linus Torvalds created in college. The project started April 1991 and a full version (1.0.0) was released on March 14, 1994. Since then, the OS has become a large hit with corporate companies, developers, and the users themselves. Linux is a very versatile OS and has been used with many upon many of different devices.

Linux is different from Mac and Windows in that it is free to install. There are many different distros one can choose from on the Linux OS that can fit just the kind of system a user wants. The OS also suffers less malware attacks because most malware is designed for Windows users instead of Linux. Some of the bad things are that some applications that work for Windows will NOT work for Linux. So people who are switching from Windows to Linux may run into some problems. Finding hardware that supports the Linux OS is also pretty difficult because a lot of things like printers or scanners are built with the Windows OS in mind, not the Linux.
